Dr Jeremy Mao on why dental implants could soon become history

Dr Mao of the University of Columbia has developed a new technique which could form bone and ligaments- effectively ‘growing’ new teeth.

Dr Mao’s approach aims to be more cost effective than the current cost of dental implants, and will result in a faster recovery time.

Dental implants require a titanium component to be anchored into the jawbone, following which a synthetic tooth is then attached.  This process typically takes up to 12 months.
